Petter Aagaard is a man of many stages. He’s performed in musicals, leads his own band The Bump Squad, reviews film and music, and co-hosts the podcast “Yoda, neida, så…”. Together with Christer Falck, he also co-wrote the acclaimed book on Prince – a true deep dive into the world of the Purple One.
When I asked Petter how he wanted to be photographed, his answer was simple: “Without a smile.” He smiles plenty in everyday life, but this time he wanted something different. That challenge set the tone for the shoot.
Shooting with energy
I kept things raw and flexible – working with available light both indoors and outdoors, and adding LED bounced through an umbrella when needed. Instead of controlling every detail, I let the spaces, the rain, the walls, and the colors shape the mood.
Petter met it all with energy. He slipped into character in every scene:
-
The serious thinker over coffee and cake.
-
The playful mind under stained glass.
-
A face emerging from nature.
-
A street character blending with graffiti.
-
A rock’n’roll pose in the rain.
Each frame feels like a performance – not staged, but lived.
Beyond portraiture

What I love about photographing people like Petter is that it’s never just about a “nice photo.” It’s about capturing rhythm, character, and contrast. He asked for no smile – and what we got was attitude, presence, and story.
✨ These photos are a visual companion to my podcast episode with Petter Aagaard. Together they paint a fuller picture: a man of music, words, and endless energy.
